Sand Mountain Sams
We were chartered in 1996 as a chapter of Alabama Good Sams, Good Sams International.
Members: At this time we have 20 families from Albertville, Altoona, Anniston, Arab, Boaz, Blountsville, Decatur, Double Springs, Gadsden, Grant, New Market, Scottsboro, and Union Grove, Alabama.
Activities: We enjoy the outdoors, all types of games, sitting around the camp just having fellowship and of course lots of food.
Camping: Dec, Jan, Feb are luncheons/fellowship at a local restaurant. Mar, May, June, Jul, Aug, Oct , and Nov are actual campouts. We usually camp the 3rd weekend of the month (Wednesday thru Saturday or Sunday). The locations are within 150 miles of Albertville with possibly one longer trip. Apr and Sept campouts are at the Alabama Spring and Fall Samborees. Our campouts are scheduled by the Wagonmaster (date, campground and “trailboss”) at the beginning of each year. The “trailbosses” are responsible for planning campout, i.e., activities, sightseeing, etc. We usually have a potluck dinner for one night of the campout (“trailboss” provides meat, all others bring their favorite dish).
Charities: We support the Pediatric Critical Care Services/Neonatal Unit of the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, and Talladega School for Deaf and Blind. All monies from the sale of aluminum, 2 yard sales a year and personal donations are given to the charities. We also donate blankets for children who have nothing warm to be taken home from hospital. In Dec we meet with members of the charities to present our donations.
You must be a member in good standing of Good Sams International and attend at least 3 meetings (to include 1 campout) before joining the chapter. After joining you must pay $20.00 per rig dues and attend at least 3 campouts/meetings per year.
